Roses@Coloma - Daniël Ost en Kaat Tilley

Daniël ost   Daniël Ost

The Belgian Daniël Ost is one the most famous floral design artists in the world. He never ceases to delight the public with his most spectacular floral creations and sculptures. Daniël Ost manages to depict life through flowers, creating in the process absolute beauty by his passion and artistry. He has managed to create his own world filled with amazing floral works of art and in the process built up an international following of loyal clients.

This artist is also very active abroad: he shares and displays his vision on flowers worldwide and is open to inspiration from other cultures. In Japan, Daniël Ost is more famous than anywhere else in the world, not surprising since the Japanese floral decorative art ikebana is a firmly embedded form of art in the country. Ost has established with Japan a bond that extends over many years. In 2009, he was contracted to decorate the Golden Temple of Kinkaku-Ji in Kyoto for an exclusive exhibition. In December 2009, he was asked to organize the Christmas decorations in the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. More recently, on 24 and 25 November 2010, he was again in Tokyo to conduct workshops and master classes on the themes ‘Christmas wreaths’ and ‘Christmas table arrangements’. More special events are being planned in Japan in 2011. Elsewhere in the world, Ost’s artistry is equally greatly welcomed: for instance, he was put in charge of the floral decorations on the occasion of the official inauguration of the Museum for Islamic Art in Doha (Qatar) in 2008.

In Belgium itself, the Maestro of floral creations is likewise held in the highest esteem. His artistry is prized by the Belgian royal family, celebrities, and corporations. Amongst other festivities, Ost was entrusted with the floral architecture on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the late King Baudouin and the 40th anniversary of his reign. He was likewise in charge of the floral decorations for the wedding of prince Philippe and princess Mathilde and of prince Laurent and princess Claire.

Daniël Ost operates two boutiques in Belgium: the original one in Sint-Niklaas, birthplace of the artist, opened in 1985, and the more recent one, a magnificent renovated art-nouveau building on Koningsstraat in Brussels, opened in 2005.

A number of splendid albums with beautiful photos immortalizing his floral artistry have been published. Also, Daniël Ost’s creations are regularly exhibited domestically and internationally (Tokyo, Kyoto, Dubai, Taipei, Seoul, Minneapolis... etc. ).

Events with participation of Daniël Ost are recognized as unique experiences. To experience the ‘floral world’ like Daniël Ost is to enter into a different realm, a region filled with rainbow colours, gorgeous designs, and the fragrances of countless flowers. His motto ‘Perfection lies in the details’ has been judiciously chosen and adhered to. Assisted by his team of specialists, this Belgian floral artist has created the most luxurious, refined, and truly unforgettable floral fantasies.

Kaat Tilley

Kaat Tilley: a Flemish fashion designer.

Tilley is a former student of the Antwerp Fashion Academy, where she graduated cum laude, having selected as theme for her end collection "Mahler and Venice". Her creations are mainly romantic, imbued with a touch of the fairylike. Her work straddles the worlds of fashion and art. She has designed outfits for, amongst others, Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand, Naomi Campbell, Melanie Griffith, Halle Berry.

Over the years she has become an established presence on the fashion scene, witness her retrospective exhibition in the Castle of Gaasbeek during the fall of 2005.
In 2007, Tilley organized at her living and work place in Asbeek (Asse) an exhibition with the sale of a large collection of her prototypes and paintings. She insists, in fact, that she is first and foremost a paintress, a fashion designer second. While in secondary school at Sint Lucas in Brussels, she enrolled in painting classes there.
Ultimately, she opted for fashion design since, according to her, it is a field with greater need of communication.
"As a paintress, you turn introspective; in a profession such as fashion designer, you become more of an extrovert."
